Meet Megan + schoolnest
I am a Michigan mama, raising two little woodland sprites to love nature, books, storytelling, and creating. I believe education is power, and we should strive to make the world a better place through self-growth and supporting each other in the ways that we can.
During our eight-year home education journey, I learned to focus my parenting on always seeking resources and methods to create a nurturing learning life for our kids. We tried all the curriculum, read piles of books, and explored the balancing act of rigorous academics with free play in the woods. I loved learning about the “best” ways to learn and so we leaned into practices like Charlotte Mason’s style of narration and methods taught in books like Make It Stick, both of which incorporate narration and keeping notebooks. Documenting and reflecting on what they learned was enriching, enjoyable, and is still great review to this day as we look back on their old writings and drawings. Time spent reading and writing is never wasted.
I created schoolnest notebooks to support this spark of creativity that I discovered in learning while homeschooling in the early years. I don’t remember many fun and creative moments of learning in school where I felt ownership of my education. I created schoolnest to support this feeling in others, whether in a homeschool or school setting.
